Frequently Asked Questions
Site FAQ's
I cannot find the role-play board/forum on the site. Where is it? We do not have a role-play board. All RP's are sent out via an emailing list ( Role-playing list ). We find that this is a much better way of conducting RP's as apposed to having managers post them on a message board. This encourages longer and all round better RP's. Unfortunately this means that non managers cannot view the quality that exists within the PMF league, although you can visit the sample role-play page to see a few standard RP's.
I see you have a message board/forum. I am not a manger within the league, can I still register and post messages on the boards? Yes! We encourage anybody to take part in the discussions on the board, and providing you do not misbehave then you are welcome to post as often and for as long as you like.
What should I do if I find a broken link on the PMF web site? There shouldn't be any broken links on the site, but should you come across any then please email the PMF Board and we will fix these as soon as possible.
General PMF FAQ's
I am new to this site. Is it true that PMF is totally free to play? Yes! PMF is totally free to play. PMF is run in our spare time and we do not make a profit from it. Although we do ask that you visit our affiliate sites. If we are to improve PMF in the future and keep the site running smoothly then we will eventually need to earn some income from the site ( If only to pay our call charges and for a host in the future ) so we ask our managers and any visitor to the site to help support the league by visiting our affiliate sites.
I like what I see and would like to become a manager. What do I have to do to join PMF? Firstly, you must fill in our application form. Places are limited at PMF and we only accept the very best applications, so to give yourself the best chance possible of being accepted into PMF you should take the time to read the rules of the game and also become familiar with the site in general. The more you know about PMF the better your chances of being accepted. Registering your details on our forums and chatting to other managers is also a good idea.
I have submitted an application form. How long will I have to wait for a reply? If you are successful then we will hopefully get back to you within 14 days, although places are limited and we may have to wait until a team is free to manage before contacting you. Should you not be successful then you will not hear back from us. We do encourage everyone to re-apply should they not be offered a team. If you are not offered a team then ask yourself, Did I submit the application to the best of my ability? If you did not then it is unlikely you will be offered a team.
I am pleased with the application I submitted although I have still not heard back from you. If your application is genuinely a very good one and you still haven't heard back from us, then it is likely that there are no free teams available at this present time. Should this be the case then we will contact you as soon as a team becomes available.
Role-Playing FAQ's
I have just been accepted into PMF. When do I start to Role-Play and how do I obtain the Role-Play list? Once you have received confirmation from the PMF Board that you have been accepted into the game you will receive a Role-Play list shortly afterwards. Once you have received the Role-Play list then you can begin Role-Playing whenever you want.
How often do I need to Role-Play and how long should they be? Quite simply, the more you Role-Play the better your chance of success in PMF. There is no limit as to how many Role-Plays you send each week but you must Role-Play at least once a week unless you have informed the PMF Board in advance that this is not possible ( i.e. If you are away on holiday, etc ). Again, there is no limit on the length of your Role-Play and the longer and more detailed they are the better. Remember, we want quality above quantity.
I'm not sure if I am going to have enough time to Role-Play. What should I do? If this is a temporary situation then simply email the PMF Board and let us know that you will not be actively Role-Playing for a while. If this is a permanent situation then DO NOT apply for a place in PMF. Above all we want active manager who are prepared and have the time to Role-Play at least once a week. If you cannot or do not have the time to stick to this then you are not only wasting your time but our time as well.
I am not too sure what to write in my Role-Plays. Where can I get more help? If you are not sure what to write in your Role-Plays then you shouldn't be applying for a place in PMF. You must read our rules and familiarise yourself with the general rules of the game before applying. If you have read our rules and are still unsure of what to write then visit our Sample Role-Play page for a few examples. Your Role-Plays can be as creative as your imagination and we are always encouraging managers to come up with new ideas.
Can I send messages to managers via the Role-Play board? No! The Role-Play board is strictly for Role-Plays only. If you want to discuss a transfer with another manager or simply want to send them a message then you must either send a private email or chat by other means ( ICQ, MIRC, etc ). By all means Role-Play a transfer or a comment to another manager via a press conference or newspaper report, but non Role-Plays will result in a punishment for that manager.
Can I include pictures in my Role-Plays? We do not encourage pictures as they can take a long time for other managers to download, although they are allowed if small in size. By this we mean less than about 50kb's. You should always keep pictures to a minimum though.
Can I pass the Role-Play list onto my friends so that they can read other Role-Plays. No! The Role-Play list is strictly for PMF managers and Board members only. Any manager caught giving out Role-Play lists to anyone other than who is on the list will be dismissed from PMF immediately.
How do I send my Role-Plays to the entire Role-Play list? Instructions will be included with every Role-Play list sent out to managers. As a general rule you must transfer all email addresses into your normal email programme ( Should you use Hotmail or another email programme ). Or you can use the 'Reply to All' button to send your Role-Play to the entire list. Please ensure that you delete the original message and subject line before typing your Role-Play though.
Transfer FAQ's
How do I make a transfer in PMF? Your first task is to get in touch with the manager of the players club ( Via email, icq, mirc, etc ) and agree a fee for the player. Once you have agreed a fee for the player you are buying or selling then you need to fill in the transfer form and submit the details to the PMF Board. The PMF Board must receive identical transfer forms from both the buying and selling clubs for a transfer to be confirmed. As soon as this is confirmed the PMF Board will update your squad page as soon as possible.
I have submitted my transfer form but the deal doesn't appear to have gone through. This is probably due to the fact that the manager you are dealing with has either not submitted a transfer form or has submitted different details to you. If this happens then you should first contact the manager to check whether he has submitted his side of the deal and then if he has confirmed that he submitted the same details as yourself then you should email the PMF Board to check the problem/delay.
I agreed a deal with another manager for a player but he has now backed out of the deal. What can I do about this? In a nutshell, Nothing! A transfer will only be confirmed by the PMF Board once two identical transfer forms from both the buying and selling club have been received. You should always refrain from announcing a new signing or sale of a player until the deal has been confirmed by the PMF Board.
Are player exchange deals allowed? Yes! Although only two players can move from one club to another in any one deal. This means that you can offer either one or two players ( With or without cash ) for another player.
How do I submit a player exchange deal? You must fill in a transfer form for every player involved in the deal. So if you are exchanging two of your players for one player from another club then you must submit three transfer forms to the PMF Board ( One form for each player being transferred ). Please ensure that you have also ticked the Player Exchange box on all transfer forms. This informs the PMF Board that another player is involved in the deal and stops managers from backing out of one half of the deal. (i.e. If you were purchasing Michael Owen from Liverpool for £10m + Kevin Davies + Chris Sutton then you would fill in three separate transfer forms. One which informs the PMF Board that you are purchasing Michael Owen for £10m, one which informs the PMF Board that you are selling Kevin Davies for £0m and one which informs the PMF Board that you are selling Chris Sutton for £0m. You must also ensure that the exchange box is ticked on all three transfer forms. ) The player exchange box enables managers to transfer players as part of an exchange deal for £0m/FREE, as managers will not be able to only submit the transfer for the FREE player. ( i.e. If you were transferring Kevin Davies to Liverpool for £0m/Free as part of the exchange deal for Michael Owen then unless both managers tick the player exchange boxes on all three transfer forms none of the three deals would go through. )
I have looked on the site but cannot find any valuations for my players. How do I know what they are worth? Where applicable, players will start their careers in PMF with the transfer value they were last signed for in real life being listed next to their name on the squad pages. These valuations will change to their transfer value in PMF ( Once they have been transferred to another club ). There are no set values what a player is worth in PMF and every manager will have a different idea as to what a players value is. As PMF progresses managers will be able to view a number of stats on a player over the course of a season ( Appearances, goals, bookings, man of the match awards, average ratings, etc ) this will give a manager a rough guide as to what a player is worth within the game. Once PMF is in full flow then you must ensure that you do not confuse the PMF league with real life. ( i.e. Michael Owen may be worth £20+ million in real life but if after two seasons in PMF he has made only 10 appearances, scored only 1 goal and been sent off twice then he is obviously not going to be worth as much within the PMF league ). Just because a player is a star in real life it doesn't necessarily mean that he will be a star within the PMF league.
What is the transfer market? The transfer market is the place where players outside of the PMF league who have either been transfer listed or simply wish to sign for a club within the PMF league are listed. There are no set dates when players will become available on the transfer market and it is up to you to keep checking back to see who is available and when. Each player will comment on where he wishes to play ( By stating which division he wishes to play for and sometimes even which clubs he would like to sign for ). He will also set a deadline as to when he will stop listening to offers ( This could be anything from 2 days to a week ). It is your job to check when these players are available. Your chairman will not be happy with you if you miss out on the chance to sign a star player because you missed his deadline.
What are the rules to signing a player on the transfer market? When submitting a bid for a player on the transfer market you must email your bid to the entire Role-Play list. Failure to do this will see your bid deemed null and void. Before submitting your first bid to the Role-Play list you must email the PMF Board the maximum you are prepared to bid for the player. Once you have done this then you cannot drop out of the bidding until the bidding for that player has risen above what you said you were prepared to pay. Clubs will be fined for pulling out of bidding wars before the price has reached their target. If you are not prepared to pay for a player then do not bid for him.
Explanation: Chris Sutton is available on the transfer market for £7m. You are prepared to pay as much as £10m for him. Before you submit your first bid to the Role-Play list you must send an email to the PMF Board stating that the most you are willing to pay for Chris Sutton is £10m. If you pull out of the bidding before Chris Sutton's price reaches £10m then your club will receive a fine. ( The amount of the fine will be solely at the PMF Boards discretion ) Once the bidding rises above £10m then you can then drop out of the bidding whenever you like. Or you can continue to bid for as long as you like. This may seem harsh but the PMF Board have applied this rule to stop managers who have no intention of buying a player from boosting transfer prices. If you bid for a player and you are the highest bidder then you must complete the deal to sign that player. You cannot pull out of the bidding whilst you are currently the highest bidder.
What bidding guidelines should I stick to? When making or increasing a bid for any player on the transfer market you must increase it by at least £200,000. So if the bidding for a player stands at £5m then your next bid must be at least £5.2m.
What is the Transfer Window? The transfer window is the place where clubs outside of PMF will come to place a bid on one of your squad players. There are no specific times when a club will table a bid for one of your players so it is up to you to check the transfer window on a regular basis. Clubs will only table an offer for a specific length of time ( This could range from 2 days to a week ). It is again up to you to email the PMF Board before the deadline date to inform them whether or not you have accepted the bid. You cannot negotiate with clubs on these bids. They are one time offers which you can either accept or decline.
Team Instructions and Tactics FAQ's
How do I fill in my first team players and substitutes before a match? You must fill in your first 11 as follows:
David Seaman GK, Gary Neville DR, Ashley Cole DL, Sol Campbell DC, Rio Ferdinand DC, Steven Gerrard MC, David Beckham MR, Paul Scholes AMC, Robbie Fowler SC, Michael Owen SC, Nick Barmby AML.
Please ensure that you do not type in capital letters ( Except for the first letter of the players first name and surname ). You must include both the forename and surname of every player. ( Just typing Seaman, Neville, etc will incur a punishment for repeated offenders ). You do not need to include the players squad number or team number ( i.e. 1-11 ). You do need to include the players position after his name. ( i.e. David Seaman GK, etc ) this informs us of which position you want that player to play in. ( You can see your players favoured position/s on your squad page ). If you stick to the format above then you will not go far wrong.
Subs: Nigel Martyn, Phil Neville, Gareth Southgate, Joe Cole, Emile Heskey.
Please submit your substitutes the same way as you would your first team. Although you do not need to include the players positions ( i.e. GK, DR, etc )
Substitutions When filling out the substitutions box, Please include which player you want to come on for who and at what time. Also include details like whether you would like him to come on only if you are winning, or only if you are losing by 2 goals, etc. It would also be helpful if you include whether you want the substitute to play the same role as the player he has just replaced or whether you want him to play in a different role.
A typical substitution instruction would be: If we are losing by 1 goal after 70 minutes then I would like to bring on Emile Heskey for Robbie Fowler. I would like Heskey to play slightly deeper than Fowler and looking to knock balls onto Owen whenever possible. Heskey should also push forward and support Owen in attack whenever the opportunity arises. With Heskey playing slightly deeper this will enable Scholes to push forward more and also latch onto flick ons from Heskey.
What should I include in my defending and attacking instructions? You should include a detailed account of how you would like your team to play during the match. You should instruct your defenders who they should mark during the match, what positions they should take up, whether they should cover each other, how they should defend set pieces, etc. You should instruct your attackers what runs they should make, what positions they should take up, how they should link up, whether your attackers should all play as out and out strikers or whether one should drop deep, etc. Although your instructions should be as detailed as possible you should remember that you do not need to write pages and pages of text to get your point across. Giving your players too many instructions could have the opposite effect and confuse them. Make your instructions detailed but to the point. You do not need to constantly repeat yourself.
