PLAYERS HEAD OFF FOR AFRICAN NATIONS

By Mark Chang for PMF News

The large PMF contingent of African players all headed off to Mali this morning, to prepare themselves for the African Nations Cup which starts in the next couple of days.

A lot of stars, and big name players will now be missing from their clubs for up to three weeks, as they try to win Africas biggest football prize.

Of the teams that were hit the hardest, Derby County will be without three of their players, as starters Lauren and Fortune, and also their new reserve keeper, Kingston.

However other clubs could say that they have been hit harder, Arsenal lose Kuffour and Kanu for the tournament, just as morale is dipping due to Palats' departure.

Struggling Norwich will be disappointed that M'Bami will not be there to make him long awaited debut, as he heads off to help Cameroon.

Other inspirational players who will be sorely missed by their club sides should be, Mark Fish (Charlton), Finidi George (Ipswich), Chelsea captain Babayaro, Ali Benarbia (Man City), Shaun Bartlett (Wimbledon), the newly signed Hadji at Sunderland, Youssef Chippo (Coventry) and a number of other players dotted around the PMF League.

Tournament favourites are Nigeria, who have had a good build up to the tournament so far, although Cameroon as being hotly tipped also. Other possible winners could come from Morocco, South Africa, the surprise package Senegal, or even Tunisia, who despite their excellent record have never won the competition in their history.

Whatever happens, it will be a great spectacle, and will surely provide some more superstars into the already dazzling PMF league.
