NEW RULE TO FAVOUR BIG BOYS? By Mark Chang for PMF News As the new ruling on International approaches came into effect yesterday, many were saying that it would be the big clubs who will benefit the most from this ruling. We talked to PMF correspondent Liam Braid about the new ruling, and the possible future affects. Personally the whole thing couldn't have come at a worse time for the smaller clubs, and those already with financial difficulties. The teams who kept their wallets firmly in their pockets are the winners at the end of the day. With the wealth of talent which is becoming available as International teams are being announced it is clear to see that teams such as Arsenal and Manchester United who have been reasonably quiet on the market, or in Uniteds case recouping finances from elsewhere, they are the ones who will benefit the most. The PMF Board did suggest straight from the start of the season that it would be unwise to rush out and spend, and Kevin Porters words back then are seeming to ring true. Porter was the first man to warn clubs against rush buying, way back when the season was in its infancy. A lot of clubs ignored his warning though, and these are the ones which may miss out on the talent. And with the teams from Italy, Brazil and Argentina expected to be named in the coming week it will be interesting which of the big guns can realistically approach the talent available. I also found it quite interesting also to see that the Department of Employment are monitoring the rule change with interest, and the sooner the better I believe. Today George Brent signed two of his compatriots of New Zealand, and I for one was surprised that the department wasn't straight onto the phone. The league is still trying to keep up the quality of imports, and make the game better, and what the PMF League doesn't need are a whole host of unknowns. |
