BORL BACK IN MANAGEMENT

The Belgian returns to the toughest job in the league

by Mark Chang for PMF News

When your team is one of the biggest in the land, and your season is on a downhill slide - what do you do?, this was the question which faced Manchester United as they sacked John Richards only a matter of days ago.

Peter Kenyon shrewdly announced that the job was open to all-comers, knowing full well that the rush for the job would be on. Names such as Palat and Jones came and were quickly dismissed.

The likely possibilities were getting to grips with the lower divisions, promising managers such as Moss and Brent. In Kenyons' eyes though, there was only one man big enough for this job.

Queue, stage right, bang on queue - a man who has answered many teams cries for help in the past, and a man still with the bit firmly between his teeth. A belgian by the name of Alain Borl, a man with more history than, well Belgium itself!

Borl returns to England for the umpteenth time, managing with huge success at various clubs. Most recently, Borl has lead the Belgium national team through the World Cup qualifiers and into the final stages.

If anything, Kenyon knows that this appointment is definitely going to be a turning point - either to bring the club to safety, and then try to move it forward, or dramatically spiral the club into further difficulties. Borl is not a mid table man, he's either up there challenging or down there battling.

Whatever happens in the coming weeks is anybody's guess, but with Borl on board Manchester United suddenly has that little extra sparkle. However, Borls' name rarely goes without the headlines, sacked, resigned or mutual consent, so many will be hoping that this honeymoon period lasts longer than most.
