TURF MOOR HEROES PROMOTED IN DRAMATIC LAST
ROUND GAME
BURNLEY INTO PFM NEXT SEASON
by Dean Dejyothin for PMF News
Burnley have been confirmed as the team who
will replace the relegated Division 4 team next season after a
heart-stopping 2-1 victory over cellar dwellers Stockport County on the
weekend.
Two goals to Leeds United reject Jacob
Burns in the final ten minutes of a rain-drenched match at Turf Moor was
enough to catapult Burnley above West Bromwich Albion on the table. WBA
suffered the indignity of losing at the Hawthorns 3-1 to mid-table
strugglers York City to miss out on promotion on goal difference.
Burnley manager Stan Ternent, who announced
after the game that he would not see Burnley make the jump into the
revamped PFM next season, said "I'm thrilled the lads have done
themselves justice. We've had a great season, and everyone at the club
was hoping this would happen...at least now we can stop holding our
breaths!"
Burns, who was thrown onto the Leeds
scrapheap by Chris Porter and shipped off to Burnley for a cut-price
£400,000 last October, scored two goals of awesome quality to finish a
game which Burnley did not deserve to win. Stockport took the lead in
just the 8th minute when a Burnley defensive mistake allowed Shefki Kuqi
an easy shot, but they failed to capitalise on great possession. The
young Australian international equalised on 81 minutes when he fired in
from close range after dummying past a plethora of defenders, before
producing an exquisite chip in the first minute of injury time to wrap
the game up.
