UP AND DOWN TALK AS
SEASON NEARS CLOSE All the changes and predictions for season 2 by Mark Chang for PMF News As the season draws to its close, it is very surprising that so many
teams have so much to play for. Division 1 - Liverpool or Newcastle will be crowned champions on
Wednesday depending on their results, Liverpool go into the game favourites
having a 1 point advantage over Newcastle, and much better goal difference.
However on paper they have the tougher of the ties, facing a resurging
Sunderland. If the Black Cats can get some sort of results and Newcastle
roll over Chelsea, then they will hand the title to their bitter rivals. On paper only Manchester United have nothing to play for in the top
division, after a faultering start they have settled in nicely in third
place, although on paper, Sunderland, Leeds, Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal
could all go down. Division 2 - Everton were crowned champions of the division when they
overcame Charlton 3-2 last week, this also ended any hopes Charlton may have
had for promotion. Also last week the fates of West Ham and Ipswich were
sealed, as Southampton stuffed Middlesbrough 4-0 to secure themselves
another season in Division 2. The only thing left undecided is the final promotion spot, Middlesbrough
have lost form recently and now see themselves only 1 point clear of Aston
Villa, Boro have a tough task facing top place Everton this weekend, whereas
Villa must play Rileys' new look Southampton side. Surprisingly Leicester
have also sprung from nowhere and if they get the right results could even
manage promotion. Division 3 - Bradford romped the division, and are still the only
unbeaten team in the league this season, strangely enough the two other
teams who are capable of joining them have shown indifferent form recently,
Sheffield Wednesday still remain the bookies favourites, although Fulham
could still get promotion. Wimbledons fate was sealed last week, despite a good win they will be in
Division 4 next season, it also sealed DJ Hedleys fate as Wimbledon manager.
Despite turning the Dons around, he was considered to not have the right
attitude to the job ahead in division 4, and was sent packing on Monday.
Blackburn, Bolton, Coventry and surprisingly Derby could also join them.
Blackburn hold the spot at the minute, but with Coventry and Derby now
finding themselves managerless many are predicting that they will be able to
get out of it. If they do manage it, then it will surely be another feather
to the cap of Martin Smutov, whos reputation increases by the day. Division 4 - Manchester City have looked in control for most of the
season, but surprisingly have not yet got the championship crown, one thing
that is certain is that they will be in Division 3 next season, as the only
two teams capable of taking the Championship, Nottingham Forest and
Birmingham will meet this weekend. If Wolves manage a win, and the Forest
and Birmingham tie is a draw then Wolves will be promoted with more goals
scored than Forest. The other four teams also have plenty to play for, as Sheffield United
have somehow managed to find themselves just 1 point behind the rest of the
pack, Norwich, Watford and Barnsley still have plenty to play for. |
