PFM BOARD ANNOUNCE
RESERVE LEAGUE DETAILS Rules for pre-S2 tournament unveiled by Mike Jones for PFM News
The PFM board today announced details of the
leagues first ever reserve league after it was discovered late last week
that PFM's second season will be delayed until the beginning of next year.
The news that the 2nd season is to be delayed
has come as a body blow to everyone involved in PFM, but the board are
confident that the new reserve league will prove to be a great success.
With clubs having to face a lengthy
wait before returning to competitive football, many will welcome the
opportunity to keep their players match fit by selecting them for reserve
team action. Not to mention the opportunity to take a look at their
relatively unused squad players.
The PFM board announced their reserve league
details only a week after it was first reported, and they made it clear
that all clubs will benefit from the chance to fine tune their tactics
before the start of the second season.
With players being limited to making a
maximum of 10 reserve league appearances during the campaign, it will give
all managers a chance to take a closer look at all their squad players.
Most PFM managers have already given their
thumbs up to the reserve league and after the boards announcement today
that a draw will take place on Sunday to determine which divisions clubs
will be entered into it is sure to attract even more excitement.
Although the new reserve league will give PFM
managers an ideal opportunity to take a look at their younger players, it
is believed that many will also use this opportunity to see their new
signings in action up close. With many big money moves taking place during
the pre season it is likely that stars such as Thierry Henry, Roberto
Carlos, Joe Cole, Miroslav Klose and Lilian Thuram will relish the chance
to impress their new managers.
With no reserve league during PFM's first
season many squad players will see this as a fantastic opportunity to
catch the managers eye and stake a first team place. Whilst out of favour
players will see a chance to showcase their talents in front of other
clubs.
The draw for the new league takes place on
Sunday 13th October and the PFM board are hoping that all managers will
attend and support the league. A spokesman for the PFM board said today
"Obviously it is a blow that we have had to delay the start of the second
season, but we feel that all clubs should take advantage of the reserve
league and use this opportunity to prepare for season 2."
He added, "Some managers may see this as a
needless league which serves no purpose, but we disagree and we hope that
most clubs, managers and players will see this as an ideal chance to
prepare for the up and coming season, which we believe will be one of the
most competitive seasons in years. We all know what happened to clubs who
didn't prepare for season one, and they consequently suffered because of
that."
"We believe that clubs who take this league
seriously will be much more prepared for season 2 than clubs who don't."
The new PFM reserve league may not be
everybody's ideal situation after the success of season 1, but with world
class stars like Michael Owen, David Beckham, Patrick Vieira, Roberto
Carlos and Thierry Henry itching for first team action, we will surely see
some excellent football on show and some competitive matches.
