PMF CLUBS DON'T DISAPPOINT ON TRANSFER D-DAY

by Matthew Gilbert for PMF News

Transfer action reached its late-season peak yesterday as PMF's transfer deadline day came and went.  A record nineteen transfers occurred on this day, the 1st of April, as clubs look to strengthen their sides for the final time this season.

Division 2's Leicester City, Division 3 relegation certainties Wimbledon and the PMF Non-League's promoted side Burnley were the biggest movers on the day, each signing three players.  On his final day in charge of the Dons before being dismissed by Sam Koppel and Co., DJ Hedley managed to snap up record-breaking striker Chris Greenacre from Mansfield Town for £1 million and also securing the services of former Plymouth youngster Robin Teagle and Turks & Caicos Islands goalkeeper Alenus Augustin.

Burnley, on the other hand, were able to use some of their promotion money to fund a raid on the transfer market, snapping up defender Steen Nedergaard and striker Dean Sturridge on free transfers, and talking Aston Villa midfielder Paul Merson out of retirement for a nominal fee.  Meanwhile, Ruud van Basten managed to sign striker Armand One, defender Bastin Verweij, and Turkish midfielder Hasan Sas.

PMF Executive member Cory Skilton was not so positive of the transfer activity though, saying "it's disappointing to see so many clubs making so many squad changes at this late stage of the season.  Why they couldn't wait for the off-season transfer window, I have no idea."

The most expensive move of the day was of Turkish international Hasan Sas, who left Galatasaray to join the Foxes for £4.5 million.  Other £1m+ transfers included Croatia's Mate Bilic leaving Real Zaragoza for Charlton Athletic for £2.5 million, and One and Greenacre joining Leicester and Wimbledon respectively for £1 million each.
