PMF EXPANSION PLANS TO BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY

PMF to expand?

As the PMF league almost comes to the close of it's first season plans are already underway to increase the size of all four PMF divisions in time for season 3.

It is believed that the PMF board have already had several meetings to discuss the matter and are ready to announce plans to increase each division from eight clubs to ten at the beginning of PMF's third season.

The increase would see eight PMF non league clubs added to the league, increasing the league from 32 clubs to 40. With the top eight clubs from the PMF non league earning promotion and also earning professional status, it is clear that promotion will be hotly sought after.

Crystal Palace, Portsmouth, Burnley, Millwall, Huddersfield and Queens Park Rangers will surely be amongst the favourites to gain promotion to the PMF league despite the changes not taking effect until the end of season two.

Arguments have been raised since the opening day of the PMF season that the gulf between the larger and smaller clubs is becoming too wide. Coventry chairman Peter Deepdale raised the issue only last week by stating that his club may find themselves with debts of almost £17 million at the end of the season. Although Deepdale will be one of the first to applaud the PMF boards decision to increase the size of all divisions.

There are some big clubs currently playing their football in the PMF's non league and the addition of clubs such as Burnley, Portsmouth and Crystal Palace will surely only prove to be an asset to the PMF league. With these clubs fighting it out for promotion during season two many will feel that the rewards for gaining professional status will bridge the gulf slightly between the smaller and larger clubs.

The PMF board have yet to release details of how promotion and relegation issues will be met, but with at least two more clubs having to be promoted than relegated it is believed that as many as five or six clubs could gain promotion in some divisions.

With only eight clubs currently occupying each PMF division it is also likely that only one club from each division will be relegated.

To add even further excitement to the PMF league the PMF board are also rumoured to be introducing play offs at the end of season two, underlining that if all this is introduced it will make for a very exciting second season for all clubs involved.

As we await an announcement from PMF officials we can only speculate on what the authorities have in store for PMF clubs next season, one thing is for sure, the PMF league will become the venue where the best players in the world will want to come and apply their trade in the future.
