** Inside the sky sports studio, Sky
sports news reader Martin Fenwick is sat at a desk facing a camera, He is
reading the days news from the SAS league in the sports news programme '
SAS today '. He is about to finish reading news concerning the transfer
of Gareth Barry from Tottenham to Man Utd **
MF:
......So, it seems that Barry is not yet a Man Utd player, We are
expecting Man Utd to respond to Tottenham's offer later today so we will
keep you up to date with news from Old Trafford and White Heart Lane.
Now, To the 2nd division and Bradford City,
City set off yesterday for a two day trip to Reading, To an army barracks
of all places in preparation for their important cup tie against West Ham
on Saturday. Hysen has been worried about the fitness of some of his
players in recent weeks and apparently arranged the trip after speaking to
his brother in law who is in the army and based at the barracks.
Our reporter Del Trotter, unfortunately for
him ( smiles ) drew the short straw and got the job of accompanying the
Bradford City squad down to the barracks.
** Scene goes to a close up shot of an
army sergeant, He shouts..." QUICK MARCH "...The camera then fades out to
see the Bradford squad dressed in all the army clothes and marching past
the camera, Which is still and focused on the players walking past. All
the players march past and then there is a pause of a couple of seconds
before Sports reporter Del Trotter walks into view, bending down and
sounding very out of breath, He looks up towards the camera and then
slowly walks towards it. **
DT:
Phew,.....Well as you can see the Bradford players are raring to go and
about to tackle the assault course again.... ( pauses )...... I think I'll
sit this one out though.
** Scene fades in to show various
Bradford players going over various stages of the assault course as Del
Trotters voice can be heard in the background **
DT:
The Bradford City players seem to be enjoying
the change of scenery here in Reading. Although it looks very hard work
they are all enjoying it and there is a very good atmosphere here in the
camp. Hysen has been joining in the fun but this trip is still being taken
seriously and the purpose of this trip, To get the players fighting fit
for their cup tie against West Ham is certainly working..........Earlier
today I had a chance to speak to Hysen about how things were progressing.
** Scene fades in to show Trotter and
Hysen sat on the grass with the army assault course in the background,
Both men are wearing army uniforms.....It is very peaceful and both men
look very relaxed. **
DT:
Buck, This looks like a very extreme way to get the players fit, How is it
going?
BH:
( smiles ) Its going very well, We arrived here yesterday morning and we
started training early yesterday afternoon. It's very hard work as you
know ( laughs ) but the players seem to be enjoying it and there's a good
atmosphere among the players.
DT:
What exactly have you been doing.?
BH:
Well we started yesterday with a six mile run which the players weren't
that keen on then we came back and tackled the assault course. We then
went down to the gym and had a gentle work out for a couple of hours
yesterday evening.
The players were very relaxed last night and
although they were tired they seemed to enjoy it.
This morning we put in some light training
followed by a 5 a side game.
DT:
And are you pleased with how its gone?
BH:
Yes very pleased, The players looked
extremely sharp this morning and I was pleased the way the training went.
They've had their share of fun and laughing about but they all know why we
are here and they have been very professional when they've needed to be.
They all want to progress to the quarter finals and they are taking it
very seriously.
DT:
How do you rate your chances against West Ham?
BH:
I think we are in the driving seat as we only
need a draw and they need a win but we know it will be very difficult.
West Ham have been inconsistent this season and we will be hoping to catch
them on a bad day. At the end of the day our fate is in our hands, If the
score stays as it is now then we are through, We have worked extremely
hard to get ourselves into this position and we don't want to loose out at
the final hurdle.
DT:
And what if you catch West Ham on a good day? ( laughs )
BH:
( laughs ) We pray.......No seriously, We have the ability and the talent
to win we just have to take that out onto the pitch and do what's needed
on the day. If West Ham are on top form then they will be favourites, they
have an ability to score goals and are very dangerous coming forward but
their weak spot is conceding goals so we will have to try and exploit
that.
DT:
There is also the prospect of a £1m bonus for qualifying?
BH:
Well I haven't really thought of the money but yes it would come in very
handy to a small club like us.
DT:
Away from the cup match, You were busy again
in the transfer market yesterday, signing Alec Cleland from Everton for
£750,000 and selling them Lee Mills for £1.4m.
BH:
Yes, we are short of cover in the right back position and feel that Alec
was being wasted in the Everton reserves so we decided to put in a bid for
him and luckily for us Everton accepted.
Lee is an extremely talented player and very
underrated, He has been in terrific form this season but due to our new
players coming in I felt he would struggle to hold down a regular first
team place. Everton enquired about Lee and Lee asked for permission to
talk to them so we agreed. Lee came back to us and said he thought that
his chances of first team football were more likely at Everton so we
didn't want to stand in his way. The fee was not what we were hoping for
as Lee has been in terrific form but we are short of funds so we decided
to accept.
DT:
Well, Its been hard work talking to you Buck ( looks at the assault course
and laughs ) but thanks anyway.
BH:
My pleasure Del.
