News & Rumours

Looking for the latest gossip? Then look no further. The press are always looking for a story, and most of them can be found here. Player unrest, transfer gossip, stories. Most of what you read in here has been heard on the grapevine. It's up to you to decide whether or not you are going to believe everything you read.

Joe Cole - I'm unhappy
Joe Cole is reported to have told close friends and family that he is unhappy in Manchester. The former West Ham United midfielder is said to be extremely dissapointed at only starting 5 PMF games this season. Cole is arguably one of the biggest English talents in PMF, but his chances at Manchester United have been limited since he made the switch North.
Cole, 21 has all but seen his World Cup chances dashed this season as he has struggled to break into the Manchester United first team. And the youngster has already stated this season that he would be prepared to move elseware in search of first team football. Manchester United manager Ani Palat may have a major job on his hands during the close season to keep his young talent from moving away from Old Trafford.

Arsenal in crisis
New Arsenal manager Max Powers will have anything but a quiet pre season as he looks to keep his new squad together after a disastrous first season in PMF. Powers, who made the move across North London just last week already finds himself looking for a central defender after Tony Adams and Martin Keown, the backbone of the Arsenal defence both hang up their boots this month. Sol Campbell is also said to be unhappy at the prospect of 2nd division football next season, and the former Tottenham defender could demand a move during the pre season break.
The likes of Patrick Viera, Thierry Henry, Ashley Cole and Danny Murphy may also seek moves during the summer rather than play their football outside the top division. Powers will certainly have a job on his hands to keep his new stars at the club.

Viduka target number one
Everton frontman Mark Viduka is apparently a hot target for some of the biggest clubs in Europe, after the Australian's magnificent scoring record of 19 goals in 15 matches this season. Viduka has had a superb first season in PMF, and his form this season has attracted the attentions of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Manchester United and Juventus.
Aussie Jones is a huge fan of his top striker though and it is unlikely the Australian manager will let Viduka go for less than £30m. But with money being no object at clubs like Real Madrid and Juventus, Viduka may find the temptation too great to refuse.

Rix sacking revealed
Despite taking Derby County to the semi finals of the PMF Cup, Damien Rix was shown the door last month after an apparent bust up with the Derby board. Rix's sacking was never fully explained to the Derby supporters but yesterday a statement from Derby County football club was read from the clubs press room to explain Rix's departure.
The board revealed that although they were satisfied with Derby's performances on the pitch, they were less than happy with Rix's behind the scenes handling of the club. Eyebrows were raised at the £4m signing of Lee Dixon, the £4.5m signing of Gilles Grimandi (Both from Arsenal) and the £8.5m signing of Paolo Di Canio. £17m spent on three players with a combined age of 104 and only a season each at best left in them was not a sign of good management. Although the final straw came when Damien Rix released Alan Kimble after hearing that the defender was retiring at the end of the season.

Ipswich Town in financial trouble
News leaked out from Portman Road today is suggesting that the Suffolk club are in deep financial trouble. It is believed that the unmanaged club will have no transfer funds to offer their new manager once he has been appointed during the summer. The relegated 2nd division club will apparently have to try and bounce straight back into division three with the squad they have now, unless the new manager sells a number of his first team players.
It is unsure whether Ipswich Town FC are in the red at this time, but with a drop in gates and revenue next season, they could find themselves in serious trouble.

City to become major PMF force
Manchester City's fine 3-0 victory over Leeds United in the PMF cup final on Saturday has underlined the fact that the blue side of Manchester could become a major force next season. With the PMF Super Cup still to come, and City's qualification to next season's PMF Shield opener, the 4th division champions are already guaranteed more than £30m in prize money for this season's achievements. And that total could reach £45m should City reach the final of the PMF Super Cup.
With an extra £40m plus to spend on new players next season Hansen will surely turn City into one of the very biggest clubs in England. The only question is, Can the club keep him or will the lure of England prove to much.

Porter denies rift with Cadin
PMF Executive board member Kevin Porter has denied rumours of a rift between himself and fellow board member Dr Olivier Cadin. Porter spoke briefly about the rumours after watching Manchester City capture the first ever PMF Cup on Saturday. He said, "It is true that we have disagreed on a few things in the past, but Olivier remains one of my greatest friends in football and we have no problems with each other". Rumours of a rift between the two have been rife since Porter critically blasted his friend and fellow board member for sanctioning £1.2m of PMF funds to help promote the PMF league. Although Porter has since apologised for the attack and put an end to rumours by adding "We are running an ever improving league and we are constantly under pressure, It is obvious that we are not going to agree on everything, but that's not to say that we wont remain friends".

Hansen set to break all records
After clinching the 4th division championship and the PMF cup in April, Manchester City manager Matt Hansen is set to pick up his 6th manager of the month award for the season at the end of the month. The award would see Hansen become the first man ever to pick up the manager of the month award for his division in every month of the season. A feet which will be extremely difficult to match. Only Marcus Larsson of Bradford City can get anywhere near Hansen this season in awards won, he would pick up his 4th manager of the month award of the season should he be given the award at the end of April.

Magpies hunt new manager
Newcastle United are apparently already in the hunt for Sigfreid Moeri's successor, despite the PMF Super Cup still to be played. Sources from inside St James' Park have suggested that Southampton manager and former Liverpool supremo Miles Riley is favourite to land the job during the pre season break. Although soccer experts are suggesting that the Newcastle board will look abroad for their new man. Whether losing Moeri will prove to be a massive blow to the North East club is yet to be seen, but after a fine first season the Newcastle fans will be hoping for the championship next season.

Powers set to quit?
Spurs manager Max Powers' future at the club could be in doubt after an apparent bust up with the Tottenham board of directors. Powers is said to have been furious at being told that no more funds would be made available to him for transfers during the pre season as Powers already looks to strengthen his squad in time for next season.
Rumoured to be at the top of Powers' shopping list are Edgar Davids, Ze Roberto and Lucio, although Powers may walk away from Tottenham if he is not given funds to strengthen his squad.

Hysen hints at PMF return
England manager Buck Hysen, whose last campaign in charge of the English national squad is in this years World Cup, has given his biggest hint yet that he would relish a return to the PMF league. Hysen said at a press conference yesterday "If the right club came along then I would be more than happy to return to the PMF league. It is the greatest league in the world in my opinion and to lead a club to glory is about the greatest success you can enjoy". Although Hysen added, "Hopefully the greatest success of all will come during this years world cup."

Jozic Hits Back
Under-fire Croatian national team manager Mirko Jozic has hit back at his detractors, labelling them 'pig-headed' and 'nuisances'. "Our (Croatia's) performances have been perfectly fine under my reign," said Jozic as his team prepares for a tough friendly visit to Saudi Arabia in a few weeks. "Managers like Ruud van Basten and Igor Krancjar, they are only looking out for themselves, and they do not see the big picture. I am working to get this side playing well, and having people like these continually abusing me publicly does not help." Jozic later threatened to drop all Croatian players who currently play at Aston Villa, saying "it's up to them. They can support either me or him (Krancjar)."

Kewell to Join Everton?
Rumours abound from Goodison Park that Harry Kewell will be installed at the club by the time the PFM Off-Season Challenge rolls around. Toffees manager Aussie Jones is a known fan of Kewell, and is reportedly preparing a massive £25 million bid to lure the left-sided winger away from Leeds United. Whites manager Chris Porter is said to be interested, as it would help finance a move for Thierry Henry, who was seen this week in Leeds with chairman Peter Ridsdale, according to sources from the club.

Managers to Elect Youngsters
It is expected that PMF House will approach all clubs this week in regards to promoting young and reserve players to the full squad. With squad sizes increasing to 40 for Season 2, it is known that many managers are eager to promote some promising youngsters to the top team. PMF Executive member Cory Skilton said "the clubs should be given their choice as to who will come up, so we'll be offering them the chance to select them."

Everton Youngsters Forced to Warm Bench
Everton boss Aussie Jones has confirmed that his large list of reserve players will again be forced to play in the reserves this week as the Toffees look to leave Division 2 with a bang.  With the Division 2 Championship already sewn up, players such as Michael Clegg, Kevin McLeod and Tony Hibbert could've expected that they'd be used in the meaningless last couple of games, but had their hopes quashed by the new Socceroos manager who continues to claim he will use a full strength lineup.

Silva Facing the Axe?
Rumours abound that Wolves boss Jose Paulo Silva may be sacked in the off-season for comments made during the last week or so.  It is believed that the Wolves board are considering Silva's position after the Portuguese national first claimed that he would join managerless Division 2 club Ipswich Town, then decided against it, in the space of 48 hours, with his actions have been publicly condemned by the likes of Birmingham City manager Ben Whitmore.  If he was sacked from Wolves, it is expected that Silva would be a front-runner for either of the vacant positions at Ipswich or Derby County.

Jones Facing Aussie Backlash
Aussie Jones could be facing his first crisis as the coach of the Australian national team after this week refusing to discuss his selection policies regarding overseas players.  Several managers of the managerial community, including Manchester City's Matt Hansen and Glasgow Rangers' Alex McLeish, have questioned Jones' 'it's my choice' stance, and are thought to be considering pulling their players out of the upcoming friendly with the Ukraine.  Jones was unavailable for comment.

Hedley feels the axe of Wimbledon
Despite a sudden resurgence under D.J. Hedley, Wimbledon again find themselves managerless. On transfer deadline day it was announced that Hedley will be leaving with immediate effect. Little is known of the reasons behind the decision, but Wimbledon are looking to have a new manager installed before the start of the new campaign.

Squad sizes set to increase
It is believed that by the time season 2 starts, squad sizes will increase to 40 per team. Although not confirmed by the PMF (soon to be PFM) Board, it is believed that the final decision is set to favour the larger squad sizes.

Rix axed by Derby
It was announced today that Damien Rix has been relieved of his duties as manager of Derby County FC. The club stated only yesterday that they were pleased with the clubs season, but in an amazing 24 hours the Derby board of directors spoke at length about Rix, and finally announced his sacking from the club this morning.
Although Derby had not set division 3 alight this season, they more than made up for that with a fantastic run in the PMF Cup, reaching the semi finals.
It is unsure exactly why Rix has been sacked at this time but it is only a matter of time before details are released.

Alex Notman: "I'm itching to prove myself"
Aston Villa striker Alex Notman told PMF News that he wants a chance in their first team or else he will "have to consider looking elsewhere".
Notman had been with Manchester United and was bought by Aston Villa for £1,000,000 but he has found it impossible to break into the team with the favoured Croatian partnership up front blocking his way.
"It would be one thing to even get onto the pitch for a few minutes of a game but since I have arrived I've not played a minute of competitive football. I understand that we're in a promotion race but I need to prove to the manager, to the fans, and most importantly to myself that I have what it takes to make it at this level."
Notman, 21, is said to be a potential target of Rix's Derby or Baggin's Coventry City but said that he can only consider moving "for guaranteed first team football".

Relzic: "I'll favour home-based players"
The Ukraine manager, Drazen Relzic, today issued a warning to the foreign-based members of his squad that they risk being dropped from the national team in favour of players who play in the Ukrainian league.
"It is not a decision taken lightly," he told the papers earlier today, "but we have some world-class players in our own league and there is an automatic assumption that anyone who plays in a foreign-league is a cut above those who play in our own league. This is fiction and I hope my choice will reflect this."
Relzic's side has only played one game but already he has promoted several youngsters from outside the "big leagues" of Spain, Italy, and Germany in favour of lesser-known players from the Ukraine and Scotland.
"This is not to say that those players in foreign leagues will not be considered, they should just consider themselves 'challenged' - it is their job to prove themselves in upcoming friendlies and in their own leagues."
This is widely believed to have been aimed at Rebrov and Luzhny, both of whom have fallen out of favour under the new regime.

Real May Seek To Add Division 2 Stars To Squad
A spokesman for Real Madrid today hinted that prominent figures in English football they've been scouting include Everton's in-form striker Mark Viduka and Southampton's Babangida who was injured last weekend. Real, who are currently leading the pack in Spain, are unable to issue any new bids now due to the Spanish transfer window but they are said to be "watching the pair with interest" according to Spanish website, Futbol Fiebre.

McMaster's Daughter Pregnant?
It has been rumoured that Jim McMaster's teenage daughter Megan is pregnant.  The Nottingham Forest manager's child, who has recently taken an interest in her father's career, is said to be just over one month pregnant, according to a close friend of hers from her exclusive school on the outskirts of Nottingham.  Outlandish reports suggest that Birmingham City manager Ben Whitmore is the father, but little substance can be found in this rumour.

Gascoigne to sue?
Paul Gascoigne's lawyers are reportedly looking into comments made by Tottenham Hotspur captain Teddy Sheringham today.  Sheringham commented on the improvement in form of Spurs since the departure of Gascoigne to Norwich City last month.  Sheringham suggested that "Paul tried to bring the other players down", with the former England team mates apparently fighting amongst themselves due to a training ground incident at Tottenham.  Gascoigne is thought to be considering a slander suit if his lawyers give the go-ahead.

Transfer Market Explodes
The official PMF Transfer Market has exploded in recent weeks, with a massive number of players making themselves available for transfer to the English league.  Young players the calibre of former Willem II 'Young Player of the Season' Bastin Verweij, a tall defender who has had trials with Serie A giants Juventus and AC Milan, and former Scotland Under 21 star Scott Wilson have made themselves known to English clubs, and will be looking for permanent clubs in the next week or so.

Derby Fans Furious at Transfers
Derby County's official website has exploded with life in the past 24 hours as fans abuse the transfer methods of boss Damian Rix.  A host of unknown players, including Liberian footballers Dabodi and Terence Dixon and Barbadian amateur Kirk Cox, were snapped up cheaply by the Australian yesterday in preparation for the end of season run to promotion in Division 3.  On top of this was the sacking of retiring defender Alan Kimble, which could land the club in hot water after the English Players Union announced today they would look into the matter.

Sutton "I'm staying at Celtic"
Celtic striker Chris Sutton has revealed that he has no intention of moving to the PMF league, and has vowed to see out his contract with the Scottish champions. The dramatic turn around has surprised many, especially after the former Chelsea and Blackburn star placed himself on the Celtic transfer list just weeks after the PMF league began. It is believed though that Sutton was disappointed that not one single PMF club put in a bid for him back in November and the striker has now decided to see out his contract.

Hysen ponders England future
England manager Buck Hysen has revealed that he may quit his post as England manager in the not too distant future. Hysen is apparently disappointed by the lack of England games the PMF authorities have arranged over the past 6 months. He said, "I know the World cup is just around the corner but I sometimes feel that we are not prepared enough for such a huge competition. I love my job and enjoy working with such quality players but I do miss the day to day running of a club."
It is rumoured that should Hysen decide to part company with England he will either look to manage within the PMF league or seek a role on the PMF Board. Hysen is known to be a strong backer of Man City manager, Matt Hansen, should he decide to leave.

Owen tipped for player of the year award
Liverpool striker Michael Owen is being hotly tipped to pick up this seasons PMF player of the year award. The England star has continued to impress this season and has underlined the fact that he is one of the hottest properties in the game today. Owen heads the leading goal scoring charts and has also performed better than any other striker in the country. Only Alan Shearer and Ruud van Nistelrooy are anywhere near Owen in the goal scoring chart, but Owen has out performed both players on a regualr basis this season.

McManaman returning to England?
Ex Liverpool and current Real Madrid star Steve McManaman has hinted this week that he may be interested in a move back to England. McManaman has had limited success with the Spanish giants and although the winger has fought hard for his place he now feels that the time has come to move.
McManaman said today "My contract runs out at the end of this season and I may decide to move elseware. I enjoy living in Madrid, but my first team chances have been limited at times.  The PMF league is one of the best leagues in the world at the moment and I would love to be a part of it."

Powers urges fans to get behind his team
Tottenham Hotspur manager Max Powers has urged Spurs supporters to get behind their team when his side face London rivals Arsenal this weekend. Arsenal enjoyed an easy 3-0 victory over their North London neighbours just before Christmas but the Gunners have struggled to maintain their early season form after the shock departure of Ani Palat a few weeks ago. With Tottenham also earning a fine 2-1 victory over title chasing Newcastle United last weekend Powers is confident that his side could pick up only their third victory of the season.
Tottenham have also announced that they have reduced their ticket prices by 30% for this weekends match with Arsenal. Powers said "I want a full house at White Hart Lane on Saturday".

Deepdale slams PMF league format
Coventry City's outspoken chairman Peter Deepdale has spoken of his displeasure at the current format of the PMF league. Deepdale is unhappy with the current size of PMF divisions and believes that his club have suffered terribly due to the loss of gate receipts this season. He said "We have not made much money in terms of gate receipts this season, far less than anything we have received during the previous ten years. Consequently we have found it very tough to provide the finances that modern day football demands for transfer signings and player wages. It’s spiralling out of control".
Coventry manager Billy Baggins has been forced to stick with a side many believe are not good enough to push for promotion from the 3rd division. With Coventry reported to be up to £10m in debt Deepdale will be praying that the club can generate enough cash during the pre season break to keep the club afloat.

Matsunaga to save Blades?
With Norwich pulling away from the relegation zone in Division 4, it leaves Sheffield United rock bottom, 4 points off of the running. Early suggestions suggest that Hihachi Matsunaga is in contact with regards to a short term contract to try and rescue his former club. Matsunaga left Sheffield United to become number 2 for Alain Borl at Manchester United, but when the Belgian walked, so did Matsunaga. It is also understood that United manager, Richard Brown, was infact sacked from his position, and this conflicts with earlier reports of him resigning from the post. Brown is the first man to have the distinction of being sacked from two PMF clubs in one season.

Argentine League Has Its Problems
Recent economic depression in Argentina has created a situation in which many footballers have not recieved payment in months. As new lows are reached many predict that many footballers may attempt to escape Argentina with their families to play for European clubs. Boca striker Alfredo Moreno and defenders Michel Portillo, Nicholas Burdisso, and Jose Maria Calvo have reportedly been approached by Standard Liege and Heerenveen as a "package buy". Such systems will allow some cash to filter into the leagues but many fear that such sales will inevitably lower the league's quality. Furthermore, the level of violence at Argentine games is said to have reached a critical level and many fear that the rest of the season may well be cancelled.
"All the Argentine clubs are working deeply in credit," expert Juan Michel Marquez told us, "and with recession to take into account as well people are not attending the matches merely increasing the problem. Without serious investment in the league almost certainly Argentina will cease to be a footballing world power unless it becomes a scouting ground for Europe. Some teams such as January's champions, San Lorenzo, have stated that they will consider ANY offer for any of their players."

Blazevic Resigns
Iranian national manager, the Croatian Miroslav Blazevic, retired earlier this week from his position after prolonged negotiations with Bosnia-Herzegovina and Jamacia. The manager who had taken Croatia to 3rd place in World Cup 1998 in France cited ill health as his reason but has not ruled out a return to management.

Pickering Demands Success
Derby County chairman Lionel Pickering is apparently demanding success of club manager Damian Rix after the Australian signed Italian superstar Paolo Di Canio last night.  This purchase brings the club's spending to well over £25 million for the season, which includes the likes of Di Canio, Nolberto Solano and Laurent Blanc.  Insiders at Pride Park are suggesting that Rix could find his position in jeopardy this season if the club aren't promoted to Division 2 come the end of the season.  The Rams sit in third place in Division 3 after their 2-2 draw with second-placed Fulham on the weekend.

Hedley's Transfers Unsettling at the New Plough?
Rumours abound from London today that Wimbledon manager DJ Hedley is unsettling some of his players after reportedly enquiring about thirty players over the past week.  The report of this number was leaked from the club this morning, with the list including Tore Andre Flo of Glasgow Rangers and Jurgen Cavens of Marseille.  Rumours suggest that this massive list of players enquired about is planting some seeds of doubt in current Wimbledon player's minds.

Blackburn in financial trouble?
Rumours have surfaced from Ewood Park suggesting that the 3rd division club are in financial trouble. A Blackburn official denied the rumours last night, saying "It is untrue that the club is in financial trouble. We are not at all worried that the club will struggle to find funds during the remainder of this season, nor next season".  But despite the statement many believe that new manager Martin Smutov will have to sell before he can buy. Although the Estonian manager will surely relish the challenge.

Cole determined to fight for place
Manchester United starlet Joe Cole has vowed to stick it out at Old Trafford and fight for his place in the team despite the youngster not starting a game for United since his move from Upton Park at the beginning of January. The highly rated youngster has only made four appearances in the PMF league this season, all for his former club West Ham.

Matteo wants first team football
Leeds United centre back Dominic Matteo has stated that he may have to seek a move to another club unless he starts more games for the Yorkshire side. Matteo has only started two games this season and is beginning to feel that his only option is to look for first team football elseware. He said "Obviously we have some fine players here at Leeds, but I feel that I have worked hard this season and have deserved more of a chance to prove myself to the manager".

Hasselbaink: I'll save Chelsea from the drop
Chelsea frontman Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has vowed to score the goals that his club need to save themselves from relegation. Chelsea have had a dismal first season in PMF and find themselves deep in relegation trouble with only four matches remaining. Despite the London club only scoring five league goals this season, three of them from Hasselbaink, The Dutchman believes that he will underline his love for the club by firing the goals that Chelsea desperatly need to keep their division one status in tact.

Williams forced out as Riley rumours surface
Former Southampton manager Albert Williams is reportedly seeking advice over his dismissal, it is still unclear as to why the Southampton manager left within a couple of weeks of his new appointment. But rumours are surfacing that Miles Riley is top of the list as the bookies favourite to return to management after leaving Liverpool earlier this season.

Palat the new boss of United
After Alain Borls shock resignation, Manchester United had only one name on their shopping list, and fortunately for them Ani Palat has agreed to return into management once more. Palat will be Uniteds fourth manager of this campaign, with an amazing turnover at the club, Skilton, Richards and Borl being their previous managers of this campaign. Palat is rumoured to be the highest paid manager in the PMF League, after United offered a sum which was reportedly "too good to turn down".

Barnsleys agony to continue?
Barnsley boss Guy Brinkley has been given a vote of confidence from his board, Brinkley has so far been one of PMF's quietest managers, in his aim to keep the fourth division side from the slide. Brinkleys negative tactics haven't brought him many friends yet, but the Barnsley boss are wanting to stick by him for the time being. Rumours are around that former manager Moe may be the next man in the hotseat.

"Hansen should be next"
Buck Hysen made strong suggestions that his reign as England manager may soon be over, Hysen is stalling on a contract extension, and his initial contract will end just after the World Cup finals. In a recent interview when asked about the link of Manchester City boss to manage the U-21 side, Hysen replied, "It would be a good move for him, as he should be in the England set-up, with his pedigree though he should be the next man for England."

Yorke has parting blast at Derby
Dwight Yorke had a parting blast at Derby County as he joined his new club West Ham United. Yorke said to a local London newspaper, "They believe that they can win the cup, I've scored 3 times in 2 matches and I get sold for a defender. I really fancied myself for a cup medal this season but in all reality I don't think they've any chances now."

DoE and Cadin debate hots up
It is reported that Dr. Olivier Cadin is fighting "tooth and nails" to stop the DoE from interfering with PMF imports. The DoE have highlighted a number of players who don't seem to have the right credentials to enter the league. The DoE highlighted Arsenals new Haitan signing as a prime example, he was just playing amateur football and played awful when he came on as a substitute at the weekend. There was also rumours that a top club was trying to sign three Solomon Island internationals. Managers have already expressed concern at the poor quality of players which some teams are bringing to these shores, and may actually back a move by the DoE.

Thompson Returns!
The recent rumours flying around PMF that former Spurs legend Brian Thompson have proven correct, with club officials this morning confirming that he had been appointed as manager of the struggling Division 1 club.  Thompson, who rose to prominence in his days managing Spurs in the old SAS league, is expected to be unveiled publicly in the next few days.

Stewart Targeted as Marlet's Replacement
Bradford's Swedish manager Marcus Larsson is thought to be preparing an £8 million bid for Ipswich Town striker Marcus Stewart following the shock sale of fan favourite and top scorer Steve Marlet.  The Frenchman signed yesterday morning for Spanish giants Real Madrid for a record £15 million, and Larsson apparently is a big fan of the Tractor Boys' striker, who has scored seven goals in eight games in a rich vein of form for Ipswich.

Cavaly Purchase Sees Haitian PMF Interest Soar!
Arsenal's £350,000 purchase of teenage Haitian midfielder Ricardo Pierre-Louis has seen interest in the PMF league on the island soar.  Already shirt sales in the Caribbean nation have risen almost 700% in the past couple of days, while local television station Star TV has picked up the right to show one PMF game per week.  Although Pierre-Louis is very unlikely to feature for the Gunners, this interest is expected to spark an influx of Caribbean-based players into PMF very soon.

Cadin Set for Return?
Rumours abound that Dr. Olivier Cadin, Liaison Officer at PMF House, is set to return to football management for the beleaguered Southampton Football Club.  The Saints have been unable to find a suitable applicant since the resignation of Christian Hjulsgaard, and Cadin is thought to be interested in the job.  The doctor of mathematics refused to comment, although Saints chief Rupert Lowe confirmed a "new manager is close to being chosen".

Jeirong doesn't look set to return
It is believed that talks between Southampton and the Nepalese manager, Joshua Foo Jierong have now collapsed. It was understood that tentative talks took place last week, but nothing has come of them, and Southampton have turned their interest elsewhere. It is now hotly tipped that Brian Thompson will indeed be returning to management, and Southampton will be keen to get his services. It is also believed that Coventry are monitoring the situation closely, with the under performing Baggins feeling the pressure.

The last two weeks TV deals have been paid, last week the games shown were Liverpool v Arsenal, and Everton v Charlton, this weeks games were Man Utd v Arsenal and West Ham v Ipswich, the home teams earn £250,000 whilst the visitors picked up £100,000.

Arsenal surprise all by naming unknown manager
Arsenal confirmed today that their new manager will be the little known, Winston Matobanadzo. The heavily religious former Cameroon International will be as much a surprise to the Arsenal fans, as to the PMF League. An unspectacular career has seemingly, and surprisingly taken a huge upturn. Whether this appointment will be a great move, or a huge disappointment only time will tell. But this appointment has certainly dispelled rumours that former favourite, Brian Thompson was due to return.

Shock replacement set for Southampton?
Nepal manager, Joshua Foo Jierong is surprisingly heading the race to take over the vacant Southampton job, after Christian Hyulsgaards shock departure, over personal business back in his native Denmark. Apparantly contact has been made with Jierong and he is a strong possibility as Southampton try to rescue their season. There has been no other news about the vacant Arsenal position, but more names have been thrown into the hat after Charltons Vlatask turned down a formal approach. There are strong suggestions that the legendary Brian Thompson may be called out of retirement.

Newcastle fined for Moeri outburst
It has been confirmed that Newcastle United have agreed to pay £500,000 in an out of court settlement between themselves, Manchester United and the PMF Board. Smith said "we need to realise that the set of PMF referees is relatively inexperienced, and mistakes will be made. It has to be expected." He later went on to defend the referees, stating that "they are just as susceptible to nerves and bad judgement as any player or coach." We all have our own ideas as to what the best England team is, but the simple fact is that I am the current England manager and I will take the blame if England fail."

Hysen went on to say, " I am surprised that Mr Jones has criticised me for not picking more than one 2nd division player, especially when one of his own players, Chris Perry was one of my substitute's. Rumours coming out of St James' Park today are suggesting that a number of high profile Newcastle United players, including new signing Nick Butt are furious with Sigfried Moeri after the temperamental manager let rip at his players after they lost 2-1 to Arsenal at the weekend.

One player, who wished to remain unknown said "The way he treated us after we ran our hearts out on Saturday was totally out of order. We gave our all for the club and for him, and that is the way he treats us. I am furious." The player went on, "I could have understood it if we had played badly, but we gave it our all and were unlucky not to earn a point. At the end of the day we were simply beaten by a better side."

Clubs benefit from TV coverage

Leeds United have been awarded £500,000 from new TV sports station, PMF Sports after the TV company, which owns the sole rights to show live PMF league and cup matches aired the 1st Division clubs opening league clash against Liverpool yesterday at Elland Road. Liverpool were also awarded £250,000 as the away side.

PMF Sports other live match yesterday, which saw Everton defeat Aston Villa 2-0 at Villa Park has also earned both clubs a welcomed bonus. Aston Villa were awarded £250,000 as part of PMF Sports TV deal to show live coverage of one match each week from each of the PMF 1st and 2nd divisions. Whilst Everton picked up £100,000.

PMF Sports have also announced that they will show three live games from each of the first two rounds of the PMF Cup, as well as two matches from the 3rd round, both semi finals and the final of the competition.

The PMF Shield and Super Cup are also rumoured to be part of PMF Sports multi million pound TV deal to show live PMF matches.

Henri's transfer dealings put on hold

Ipswich Town football club's board of directors have sensationally put a temporary block on all transfers involving the club. The decision has been rumoured to have been made after Ipswich Town manager Jaz Henri attempted to purchase a further 5 players over the weekend, to add to the 12 he has already signed this season. No other PMF club has been as active as Ipswich Town in the transfer market since the start of the season, and it is thought that the board of directors are now becoming concerned with the stability of the squad.

One director said "We have allowed Mr Henri to purchase a further two players this weekend, but yes it's true that we have blocked the other deals. We feel that far too many players are moving in and out of the club, and it is becoming a concern." He continued, "No deadline has been put on our transfer inactivity. If Mr Henri has the opportunity to bring in a high quality player, or make the club a lot of money, then we will obviously have to consider this, but we feel that the way things are going at the moment, we will have a totally unrecognisable squad within a couple of months."

Manchester City announce merchandise profits

Manchester City received a timely boost ahead of their opening PMF League clash at home to Norwich City on Saturday as they announced their pre season merchandise profits today. The 4th division club announced a £1m profit from the sale of Manchester City shirts and other club merchandise sold at their club shop.

A club spokesman said "The signing of Erlend Hanstveit has definatly increased shirt sales over the past few weeks."

It is unsure whether the club will use the extra funds to improve Maine Road or to strengthen the squad.

Injuries hamper club preparations

A number of PMF clubs have seen their opening league match preparations thrown into chaos through training ground injuries this week.

With PMF's first season less than a week away many managers will be forced to change their planned first elevens as reports of injuries were released by clubs this weekend.

Arguably the biggest blow will be felt at Highbury, where Ani Palat learnt today that veteran keeper David Seaman will miss Arsenal's opening 1st division clash at home to Newcastle after spraining his wrist in training on Friday.

West Ham will also be without Michael Carrick for their league opener after the youngster bruised his right thigh on Thursday.

Other players who will also be unavailable for selection this Saturday include Charlton's Jason Euell (Bruised Ribs), Blackburn's Keith Gillespie (Damaged Ribs) and Derby County's Craig Burley (Dead Leg).

All players are expected to be fit in about a week.

Advocaat wants Westerveld

Rangers boss Dick Advocaat is reported to be watching Liverpool keeper Sander Westerveld. Advocaat is resigned to losing first-choice keeper Stefan Klos, who had earlier put in a transfer request to join the PMF league. Klos has now set his sites elsewhere, and Advocaat wants Westerveld to succeed the German.

Westerveld now looks to be the third-choice keeper behind Dudek and Kirkland, and he knows that he must move to remain a regular in the Dutch squad. Liverpool would reportedly be willing to do business if Rangers can match the 4 million pounds that they paid Vitesse Arnhem.

D'Alessandro turns his back on the PMF League

River Plate midfielder Andres D'Alessandro sensationally turned his back on the PMF League yesterday when he withdrew his transfer request late last night and destroyed both Manchester United's and Ipswich Town's hopes of signing him.

It is believed that Manchester United even made a last ditch attempt after the players deadline to sign D'Alessandro, but the midfielder issued a brief statement this morning saying that he couldn't bring himself to leave Argentina at this time.

Everton starlet hoping to lead Revolution

Everton misfit Joe Max Moore is a target for MSL outfit New England
Revolution. The American international striker seems unlikely to feature in Aussie Jones' plans this season and New England may be ready to table a three million pound bid to bring the want away striker home.

McRich for Scotland?

Rich McRich is being hotly tipped to succeed Craig Brown as the next Scotland manager. The Scottish FA are aware that it would be very difficult to prize the Scotsman away from Sunderland, and are rumoured to be on the verge of offering the job on a part time basis. Sunderland officials have neither confirmed or denied rumours, however it is known that McRich will be in Scotland with his club before the start of the PMF season.

Utd turn up the heat on Derby

Manchester United are becoming relentless in their bid to sign Derby centre back Chris Riggott, a source has revealed. Cory Skilton is desperate to land the young defender in his bid to capture the first division title this season and is even prepared to offer Quinton Fortune plus a sizable amount of cash to land his man.

Derby are unwilling to let go of one of their prized assets though and Skilton looks set to have a fight on his hands to prize the youngster away from Pride Park.

Batty unhappy as Derby move falls through

Leeds' David Batty has spoken of his disappointment after failing to complete his £1m move to Derby County this morning. Both clubs had agreed a fee for the veteran midfielder but Derby were unable to pay the players signing on fee. Batty said, " I'm disappointed that the deal could not be completed, but it seems that Derby were unable to pay my signing on fee for some reason or another. I suppose I will have to wait to see whether Derby can sign me in the future."

It is believed that this is not the first time that Damian Rix has missed out on a player due to lack of funds, and the Derby board are becoming concerned with the Australians lack of professionalism when negotiating with players.

Henri could be in trouble

Sources from inside Portman Road are already suggesting that Jaz Henri's head could be for the chopping block should Ipswich fail to win promotion from the 2nd division this season after the Ipswich manager's flurry in the transfer market last week.

No fewer that 19 players have passed in or out of Portman Road's doors during the past week and many believe that if Henri's team do not perform this season then he could pay the price.

A spokesman for Ipswich Town FC quashed rumours today though by saying, "We may have bought and sold more players than any other club in the PMF League, but the club are delighted with the start Mr Henri has made to his Ipswich Town career, and we are positive that we have the right man to take us to the top."

Fulham manager Ruan Daniels has made a dramatic U-Turn and issued an apology to Manchester United manager Cory Skilton after his outburst last week. Daniels blasted the Manchester United manager after Skilton criticised the sale of Viduka late last week, but in a change of heart Daniels not only sent a letter of apology to Skilton, but also invited his rival out to dinner.

In other news from Craven Cottage, John Collins has revealed that he wants away from the London club after being told that he would not be named as club captain this season. Sunderland are expected to lead the chase for the want away midfielder.

Ferdinand surprised after Sunderland switch

Les Ferdinand has expressed his surprise at ex manager Max Powers decision to accept a £2m bid from Sunderland, after he claimed today that he was expecting to make a £4 plus move to Blackburn.

It is believed that Powers had already agreed a fee of around £4m for Ferdinand late last week with Blackburn Rovers, but had to wait until the Yorkshire club had the sufficient funds to complete the deal.

Ferdinand said, " I'm surprised that Tottenham would want to lose out on £2m, but it is their decision and I am very happy to have finally completed my move to Sunderland."

West Ham board blast Chase

After an emergency board meeting at Upton Park this morning the West Ham board announced that manager Adam Chase's job is on the line unless he bucks up his ideas.

Chase has been an almost recluse since he was appointed manager just six weeks ago and  many believe that he could be out of a job before a ball has even been kicked this season.

A West Ham spokesman said, "The West Ham board are becoming increasingly concerned with Mr Chase's lack of ability to do a good job here, we had an emergency meeting this morning and we will be monitoring the situation very closely over the next week. If Adam is not up to the job then we will look for a replacement before the season starts on November 3rd."

Tommy Sangston rushes back home

New Watford assistant manager Tommy Sangston flew back to his native Australia late last night after hearing that his Mother had suffered a mild heart attack. The former Newcastle assistant, who was in the process of taking his former club to court over allegations that he had been wrongfully dismissed, was said to be devastated last night as he caught the first flight out of England late last night.

The Australian said as he left, "The only thing on my mind at the moment is my Mother. I cannot say when I will be back in England, In fact I cannot say whether I will be back at all. At the moment I just want to be with my family. Football is the last thing on my mind."

Cole's Old Trafford career could be over

Andy Cole seems set to leave Manchester United this week after the club received a bid of over £8 million from an unnamed first division club, opening the door for Turkish striker Hakan Sukur to move to Old Trafford.
Cole said that he would be "unhappy to leave Old Trafford", but admitted that he would "put my international career ahead of my club career if need be."

Also set to arrive is Dynamo Kiev stopper Alexander Holovko.  Although the Ukrainian has not shown any desire in joining Division 1, Skilton has been a long time fan of the Eastern European, and could well see him as the ideal replacement for departing defenders David May, Michael Clegg, and Ronnie Wallwork.

Tottenham Supporters voice concerns

Hundreds of Tottenham supporters voiced their concerns on a local radio station today after hearing that Tottenham had re-signed Paul Gascoigne from Everton earlier in the day.

One fan said, "It is not the fact that we have signed Gascoigne that is the problem, It is the fee we have paid. I cannot understand what Max Powers is playing at. Even he must see that £1.5m for a player of Gascoigne's reputation is a massive gamble."

Another fan said, " I remember when everybody blasted Everton for taking such a risk on Gascoigne a few seasons ago, and they didn't pay a fee for him. We have paid £1.5m for a player I don't expect we will see very much of."

Newcastle and Fulham set to battle it out for Sutton

Newcastle manager Sigfried Moeri looks set to face stiff opposition in his bid to sign unsettled Celtic striker Chris Sutton. It is believed that Moeri is preparing to make a £14m bid shortly after the transfer deadline is lifted on October 13th.

Fulham manager Ruan Daniels has denied that he is interested in the former Blackburn striker though, by saying "Newcastle are welcome to him (Sutton). He has never been a target of ours." Moeri is rumoured to be keen on renewing the SAS partnership of Sutton and Shearer, a move which Daniels has labelled "Totally ludicrous".

With Fulham already being linked with Carew and Dugerry this week, it seems unlikely that they will also have the funds to match Newcastle's bid for Sutton.

Tension between two of PMF's top bosses?

It is believed that Arsenal manager, Ani Palat, and Manchester United boss,
Cory Skilton, haven't started the season best of friends. A source at Arsenal has claimed that there was a furious telephone conversation between the two, regarding a proposed 25 million pound deal for one of United's top stars. Palat was rumoured to have slammed the phone down, and was overheard saying, "There is no question of me doing any deals with him, there is an ego clash or something.", it is believed that Skilton was merely humouring his counterpart, and had no intention of selling any of his players to his close rival.

Cole & Butt look set to lead United exodus

It appears as if all is not rosy at Division 1 giants Manchester United, as further player unrest is reported from the club. Following the yet-to-be confirmed sales of backup players Quinton Fortune, Michael Clegg and David May, the Old Trafford club are set to lose the services of regular first teamers Nicky Butt and Andrew Cole after a series of disagreements with new manager Cory Skilton and his assistant Ben McCabe.

Although neither were available for comment, an unnamed club official has pointed to "numerous rows" between Butt and Skilton, and Cole and McCabe. Both players have already been frozen out of a training session each following their refusals to apologies, and it is believed that they are on the verge of a double move to Division 1 rivals Sunderland. With both having sat out yesterdays first team verses reserves training match, the careers of the England internationals hang in the balance.

Laslandes goes AWOL

Former Bordeaux striker Lillian Laslandes' Sunderland career could be over before a ball has even been kicked this season after a club spokesman revealed that the player had gone absent without leave. New manager Rich McRich has recalled his players from pre season training a week early, although the Frenchman was absent as the rest of the Sunderland team met up at the clubs training complex. Laslandes is reported to be upset after he heard that McRich has been trying to offload him to raise cash to strengthen the squad. The players agent, Didier Jules, has issued a statement saying that Laslandes has stayed in France "for personal reasons" but he added "If Lillian is surplus to requirements at Sunderland then I wouldn't expect him to stay for long".

Ivanov as a key player to help bolster the Merseysiders push for promotion this season.

Van Der Saar set to leave Fulham and Saha could follow.
Rumours circulating from Craven Cottage suggest that Edwin Van Der Saar may be allowed to leave Fulham for a cool nine million pounds. A source from within the club stated that the keeper has not fallen out with the club but is seeking a move away from London, which he regards as "too cosmopolitan" for his tastes.
Fulham striker, Louis Saha has said that "A move to Manchester Utd would be a dream" after press speculation earlier in the week suggested that Cory  Skilton may bid for the player. However, Mr. Fayed has stated that
his star striker is unlikely to leave for less than £16m.

Exodus at Manchester United?

With the PMF league season still several weeks away and Cory Skilton only days into his new career. It seems the Australian is already prepared to stamp his authority at the club. Rumours from Old Trafford are suggesting that some big name players could be shipped out as soon as the transfer embargo has been lifted. Top of the list to find themselves out in the cold are Dwight Yorke, Phil Neville and Nicky Butt.

Liverpool supporters voice their concerns

Liverpool supporters voiced their concerns over a local Merseyside radio station yesterday after new manager Miles Riley hinted that as many as 18 players could be on their way out of Anfield before a ball has even been kicked this season. One fan said "He is planning on selling an entire first team of current Internationals, does the guy know what he is doing?" Amongst those rumoured to be leaving are Biscan, Murphy, Riise, Westerveld, Hamann, Carragher and Henchoz.
